A (socially distanced) reality TV show on the internet that honors the weird dreams the pandemic gave us
The Google search “why am i having weird dreams lately” quadrupled in the U.S. at the beginning of the pandemic in early April 2020 (#ItsAThing).
To celebrate them, we found four cast members to join The Zone: The Reality Show of Your Dreams. Then, we let the fandom co-conspire in how each episode reimagined our stars’ wacky, Fanta-stic dreams.
Based on our cast members’ dream questionnaires, each week’s episode sent fans down the rabbit hole of things they love. (Vaporwave, astrology, anime, ‘90s video games, mukbang—you name it.)
I wrote a Halloween-themed episode that very appropriately premiered a few days after Thanksgiving.
Fans helped determine important plot points by voting in Twitter polls.
