TRAVEL DURING QUARANTINE

A COVID
COOKBOOK_

Bringing people in advertising around the world closer together during the pandemic through homemade food

One of the greatest things about working in advertising is having friends in the industry all over the world. It means you have all-in-one tour guides who have strong opinions about authentic food. Everywhere.

While the world was on lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, I spearheaded an international cookbook that celebrated the global diversity of the ad industry. It connected us through food although we were all thousands of miles apart during quarantine.

35 people in advertising from 24 different countries (on six continents!) sent us recipes, #foodporn pics, and the stories behind their homecooked meals. Through food, we traveled internationally within the coronavirus confines of quarantine and learned about other cultures from locals—everyone from ad school students to group creative directors.

We asked these advertisers-turned-chefs to tell us a story about their dishes that would help us experience their countries through the food...

...and created a cookbook that functioned as a passport/travel guide.

(Not only did I discover my inner chef during quarantine, but I also got to channel my inner art director while designing the layout of the cookbook.)

Our cookbook began on Instagram during the height of the pandemic to cater to amateur chefs who scour the internet for new recipes. There, we posted mobile-friendly videos.

The @travelduringquarantine account garnered 14,000 impressions as well as countless new connections over diverse #foodporn.
